In May of this year, residents and staff at Henley Brae Retirement Community took a day trip to the Blue Mountains.
After prolonged lockdowns and restrictions, this was a highly anticipated outing for the 18 residents and two staff.
These monthly social outings are an important part of cultivating social engagement, community and belonging among residents, particularly for those who live alone and who don’t drive.
The day included a visit to the Hydro Majestic hotel for a leisurely walk through, taking in the beautiful surrounds and breathtaking views and a sumptuous high tea of petite sandwiches, pastries, scones with jam and cream and tea and coffee.
It was a bucket-list kind of experience for many of the residents which finished with a stop in Leura for some shopping and a day that will be remembered for a long time.
